Passing Criteria & Exemptions
To pass CA Intermediate, you need at least 40% in each paper and 50% aggregate in each group separately.
To pass each group of CA Intermediate: (1) at least 40% marks in each paper, AND (2) at least 50% aggregate across all 3 papers in the group. Both conditions must be met simultaneously. You can pass groups in separate attempts.
CA Intermediate paper-wise exemptions (for papers scored 60% or more while failing the group) are valid for 3 subsequent attempts. If you do not pass the group within 3 attempts using those exemptions, you must re-appear in exempted papers too.
No. Once you pass a group of CA Intermediate, that group is permanently cleared. You only need to clear the remaining group. There is no time limit for clearing the other group, as long as your registration remains valid.
ICAI periodically issues notifications about exemptions for members of other professional bodies. Qualified CMAs and CS holders may get exemptions in certain papers. Check the current ICAI notification for your applicable scheme and apply through the SSP portal before the exam deadline.
