Strategic Professional Papers — SBL, SBR & Options
Strategic Professional has 2 compulsory papers (SBL and SBR) and 2 optional papers chosen from AFM, APM, ATX, and AAA. All are session-based exams held 4 times per year.
ACCA Strategic Professional has:
Compulsory (must pass both):
- SBL: Strategic Business Leader (integrated case study, 4 hours, open-book)
- SBR: Strategic Business Reporting (3.5 hours)
Optional — choose 2 from:
- AFM: Advanced Financial Management (3.5 hours)
- APM: Advanced Performance Management (3.5 hours)
- ATX: Advanced Taxation — India (IN) or other variant (3.5 hours)
- AAA: Advanced Audit and Assurance (3.5 hours)
4 papers total (SBL + SBR + 2 optional). All pass at 50%.
Yes. SBL and SBR can be sat in the same exam session. However, ACCA recommends sitting only 2 Strategic Professional papers per session given the high difficulty and integrated nature of these exams. Most students take 1–2 papers per session.
Sit SBL first or alongside SBR, as SBL's case-study format requires the broadest knowledge base. For optional papers: AFM is best if you excelled in FM; APM if you excelled in PM; ATX if TX is your strength; AAA if AA was strong. Many candidates sit two optional papers simultaneously in the same session.
