Eligibility & Admission
CMA Intermediate can be joined after CMA Foundation, or through Direct Entry for eligible graduates and 10+2 Commerce students.
CMA Intermediate has multiple entry routes:
1. Foundation Route: After passing all 4 CMA Foundation papers.
2. Direct Entry: Commerce graduates at any level (10+2 Commerce, B.Com, M.Com, etc.).
3. Students who passed Class 12 (10+2) in Commerce stream.
4. Graduates in any field.
For Direct Entry, graduation or Commerce 10+2 qualification makes you eligible — verify current ICMAI notification for exact criteria.
The following candidates are eligible for registration to CMA Intermediate Course:
Through Foundation Route:
- Passed Senior Secondary School Examination (10+2) AND passed CMA Foundation Course of ICMAI
- OR qualified the Foundation (Entry Level) Part I Examination of CAT (Certificate in Accounting Technicians) Course of ICMAI
Direct Entry (without Foundation):
- Degree examination of any recognized University (except performing arts like music, dancing, photography, painting, sculpture)
- Qualified Engineers or equivalent in any subject other than the performing arts
- Passed Intermediate Examination of ICAI (CA Intermediate)
Provisional Registration: Candidates awaiting results of degree examinations may apply for provisional registration. They must convert to regular status within 18 months.
Yes. Graduates in any stream (Science, Arts, Engineering, etc.) can register directly for CMA Intermediate without clearing CMA Foundation. This is the Direct Entry route. Contact ICMAI or check icmai.in for the complete Direct Entry eligibility criteria.
Yes. Graduates from any recognized University (in any discipline except performing arts — music, dancing, photography, painting, sculpture) can register directly for CMA Intermediate Course without passing CMA Foundation. This is the Direct Entry Route.
Qualified Engineers and candidates who have passed the CA Intermediate examination (ICAI) are also eligible for direct entry to CMA Intermediate.
CMA Intermediate registration is valid for 5 years from the date of registration. If you fail to clear all groups within 5 years, you must re-register. Paper exemptions carry forward within the validity period.
Cut-off dates for CMA Intermediate Course registration:
- For June Term Examination: 31st January of the same calendar year
- For December Term Examination: 31st July of the same calendar year
Registration must be completed at least 4 months prior to the commencement of examination.
A CMA Intermediate registration is valid for a period of 7 (seven) years from the date of registration. After expiry of the seven-year period, registration is cancelled. In such cases, the student must apply for DE NOVO Registration.
DE NOVO Registration fee: Rs. 5,000. DE NOVO Registration is normally granted once only. A second DE NOVO may be granted if the student has passed at least one Group or earned exemption in at least two subjects.
Students who appeared in a degree examination and are awaiting result may apply for provisional registration for CMA Intermediate. They must submit the pass result within 18 months from the date of provisional registration to the respective Regional Council Office/Chapters/CMA Support Centers. Failure to submit within 18 months leads to cancellation of provisional registration and forfeiture of total fee paid.
