Active Recall vs Passive Review: What the Research Actually Says

Re-reading a chapter feels productive. The familiar content flows easily, comprehension feels high, and at the end of the session you feel like you know the material well. This feeling of fluency is the problem: it is a poor predictor of whether you can actually recall the information when needed.

What Active Recall Actually Is

Active recall is any study activity that requires you to retrieve information from memory rather than receive it from a source.
