What is CSEET? — The Gateway to CS Executive Programme
The Company Secretary Executive Entrance Test (CSEET) is a mandatory entrance exam conducted by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) for students who wish to pursue the CS Executive Programme. Clearing CSEET is your first step towards becoming a Company Secretary — one of India's most prestigious and in-demand corporate governance professionals.
Important Update (June 2026 onwards): ICSI has restructured the CSEET syllabus and format applicable from the June 2026 session. This article is fully updated with the new restructured pattern.
CSEET Exam Pattern 2026 — Restructured Format
Under the restructured CSEET (applicable from June 2026 session), the exam is conducted over 4 days at physical examination centres. The exam is centre-based — not remote proctored.

- Must have passed or be appearing in Senior Secondary (10+2) examination or equivalent
- Only Indian Nationals can apply for CSEET
- Must be registered in the restructured CSEET course
- Must complete the online Student Induction Programme (SIP) before the exam

Paper 1 — Business Communication (100 Marks, Subjective)
This paper tests your English grammar knowledge and business communication skills. Key topics include:
- Essentials of Good English: Grammar (nouns, verbs, tenses, voice), vocabulary (synonyms, antonyms), common errors, idioms, proverbs, comprehension and summarizing
- Communication: Business communication principles, digital mediums (email, SMS, video conferencing, AI tools, chatbots), listening skills, etiquettes, intercultural communication, social media modalities, data privacy, workplace hierarchy
- Business Correspondence: Business letters, reports, office circulars, memorandums, email etiquettes, notice, agenda, minutes
- Common Business Terminologies: Financial and non-financial terms defined under various laws and regulations
Paper 2 — Fundamentals of Accounting (100 Marks, Subjective)
This paper builds foundational accounting knowledge. Key topics:
- Basic Concepts and Principles: Accounting concepts, principles, policies, valuation
- Accounting Process: Journals, ledgers, trial balance, rectification of errors
- Bank Reconciliation Statement
- Depreciation and Amortization: Methods — straight line and diminishing balance
- Final Accounts: Sole Proprietorship — trading, P&L, balance sheet
- Partnership and LLP Accounts: Goodwill, admission/retirement/death of partner
- Introduction to Company Accounts: Shares, debentures, forfeiture, redemption

Part B — Business Environment:
- Entrepreneurship in India, government initiatives
- Business environment types — economic, socio-cultural, political, legal, technological
- Key government institutions: NITI Aayog, MCA, SEBI, RBI, IBBI, CCI, NCLT, NCLAT
- Global organisations: WTO, Asian Development Bank, OECD, World Bank, OPEC
- Environmental governance, sustainability, ESG
- AI and Business Environment (new topic — AI evolution and usage in business)
- Elements of Corporate Governance
Paper 4 — Business Laws and Management (100 Marks, OMR Based)
The only OMR-based (objective) paper. Divided into two parts:
Part A — Business Laws (60 marks):
- Introduction to Law — meaning, sources, legal maxims
- Elements of Company Law — types of companies, board of directors
- Elements of Law of Contracts — essentials of valid contract, agency, indemnity, guarantee
- Partnership and LLP Law — partnership deed, rights and liabilities of partners

- Law relating to Negotiable Instruments — cheques, demand drafts, crossing
