CA Intermediate Group 1: Complete Subject-wise Study Plan

By Admin · 18 Mar 2025 · 390 views

CA Intermediate Group 1 Overview

CA Intermediate Group 1 (under the New Scheme) has three papers under ICAI's updated syllabus: Paper 1 — Accounting, Paper 2 — Corporate & Other Laws, and Paper 3 — Cost & Management Accounting. Together, these cover 300 marks and form the theoretical and practical foundation of a CA's core skills.

Paper 1: Accounting

Accounting in CA Inter is significantly more advanced than CA Foundation. Key areas:

  • AS 1–29 (Indian Accounting Standards) — crucial; expect 30–40 marks from AS application
  • Company Accounts — issue of shares, debentures, underwriting, P&L appropriation
  • Amalgamation of Companies — pooling of interests vs purchase method (AS 14)
  • Liquidation of companies — statement of affairs, list B/C
  • Average Due Date, Hire Purchase, Branch accounts

Strategy: Solve ICAI practice manual problems, not just read theory. Accounting is a practice subject — 2 hours of solving beats 4 hours of reading.

Paper 2: Corporate & Other Laws

  • Companies Act 2013 — Part I (Sections 1–148): Incorporation, share capital, directors, meetings
  • Other Laws — Part II: FEMA basics, Negotiable Instruments Act, Insolvency & Bankruptcy basics

Strategy: Learn section numbers. In CA Inter Law, citing "Section 149(1)" instead of just saying "Companies Act" can mean the difference between 3 marks and 5 marks on a question.

Paper 3: Cost & Management Accounting

  • Cost Sheet — a must-learn; appears in every paper
  • Marginal Costing, CVP Analysis, Break Even Point
  • Standard Costing — material, labour, overhead variances
  • Budget and Budgetary Control
  • Process Costing, Job Costing, Contract Costing

Strategy: CMA is 80% numerical. Solve the ICAI practice manual exhaustively. The exam repeats similar numerical formats year after year — past papers are gold here.

💡 E-mentor Study Planner for CA Inter covers all three Group 1 papers chapter by chapter. Add your exam date and the planner shows exactly how many chapters you need to cover each week. Track your reading, revision, and practice sessions — all in one place.

90-Day Group 1 Plan

  • Days 1–30: Complete Accounting (all chapters, solve practice manual problems daily)
  • Days 31–55: Corporate Laws (Companies Act Part I + Other Laws)
  • Days 56–75: CMA (focus on numericals — cost sheet, variances, budgets)
  • Days 76–90: Full revision + 1 mock paper per subject
